Battling the Evil of Imposter Syndrome

Episode Synopsis

In this episode we discuss two of the biggest evils of the creative world, imposter syndrome & self-doubt. These two evils are extremely powerful in that they can take any person, whether they are creative or no, to their knees crying for their mommy.

I have experienced both numerous times in my life and I won’t lie, there are still times today where I feel those dark feels creep over my shoulder while I’m working on a project. I share my stories in this podcast as well as a few pieces of useful information on how you can keep those feelings at bay.

Nuggets of Wisdom:

  1. Self-Doubt Happens to Everyone - It doesn’t matter who you are, what you do, it happens to us all. Throughout our entire lives and careers we will be faced with this internal struggle of “am I really good enough?” Yes you are and always remember that!
  2. Self-Doubt is Like a Poison - One singular thought of self-doubt can derail your entire self-worth and self-confidence. When ever it hits you, just take a second, breathe and let that moment pass and go do something that’ll take your mind off it complete. I myself will go for a walk, workout or go to the movies to get those thoughts out of my head.
  3. The Creative Community is a Powerful Resource - When you start to build your own personal network and get introduced to the amazing creative community out there like you do at conferences, you can then rely on them to help you in good times and bad. You can also rely on them to give you some very good advice if that’s what you need.
  4. Enjoy Every Win You Get - No matter how small it might be, enjoy all your wins for what they are… wins! Having those positive moments will help squash those thoughts of self-doubt. If you need to, think about making yourself your
very own Jar of Awesomeness, it’ll help.
